The Items Every Man Needs in Their WardrobePosted 28th July 2017
Do you find it difficult to know what to add to your current wardrobe? Perhaps you buy items that you like but have no idea of how to piece fashionable outfits together. I have listed 18 of the items I believe should be in every man’s wardrobe. Follow this guideline and you cannot go wrong!
1. The classic shirt
It’s important for you to have at least one smart shirt in your wardrobe for interviews, working at the office, a special occasion or night out. The classic shirt doesn’t have to be restricted to plain white. The shirt can be a combination of white with simple black detail on the cuffs or a striped shirt for example. When it comes to looking stylish in the smart shirt, the most important thing is the way it’s tailored to your body. Always opt for the perfect fit rather than settle for baggy as it distorts the frame. If you’re in between sizes, I suggest going to a tailor. Aside from making a shirt to fit perfectly, you can have personal touches such as embroidering your initials, choosing the right collar for your face shape, and in the fabric you desire.
2. The sexy playful shirt
It’s important that you feel sexy. When you are looking and feeling good, us women notice! Wear a well fitted shirt in deep intensive shades, perhaps with a high collar and a few buttons undone to increase sex appeal adding a hint of mystery. Imagine yourself stood at a bar wearing something like the picture below, radiating confidence that attracts women to you. How good would you be feeling..? I’m guessing on top of the world!
3. The approachable shirt
The approachable shirt, aka smart casual is a must have for men. What do I mean by approachable: the relaxed shirt in pastel colours such as blue and pink. If you’re turning up your nose at the pink suggestion here is what I always say, “What type of man wears a pink shirt… A real man!” To make your shirt look even more stylish and relaxed, roll up the sleeves twice and undo your top button. This look is great if you are out and decide to go out out!
4. Smart trousers and/or chinos
I love chinos, they can be worn for smart or casual reasons and is a great way to incorporate more colour to your look. Many men do get stuck in a rut, wearing only black, grey or blue. Use chinos as a way to be more experimental with colour. You may surprise yourself!
The obvious one is jeans. They are comfortable and lets face it, they look cool and go with most items! There are so many different styles of jeans from relaxed fit to skinny fit and you can have a variety of styles to work with the different T-Shirts, jumpers and shirts. Experiment with the different styles and finishes. There may be a style of Jean out there that’s suits you more than the style you currently wear.
6. Suit up
Every man needs a suit. There are many occasions that require wearing one, and every woman loves a man in a suit! See a suit as an investment piece. Spend a little more on the perfect suit, look after it and it’ll last years. No need to be restricted by colour; you can choose the classic black suit, brown, blue, grey… all of which can be worn in different shades and textures. Feel like the ultimate James Bond and make an everlasting impression! As Barney says from How I Met Your Mother… Suit Up!
Boots are multipurpose. You can wear them under suit trousers to avoid a sock gap, under jeans and chinos or even over the jeans for the relaxed casual and slight edgy look.
8. The smart shoes
Whether it’s tan, brown or black, snake skin, suede or leather: Brogues, Derby or Oxfords, every man must own at least two pairs of smart shoes. The smart shoe can smarten up a casual outfit, or add even more class to smart trousers and a suit. Look after them by frequent polishes and keeping the shape with shoe trees, they will last longer.
9. Casual shoes
Whether you’re into the rock scene, love the smart casual look or are in to sports, every man must have that pair of shoes that they feel most comfortable in; the everyday shoe that you can’t live without.
10. Matching belts
It’s always best to wear the same colour belt and shoes, it looks organised and pulls the outfit together, with the exception of wanting to mix up colours to be quirky or creative.
Your tops are the core of your look; the item to which the rest of the outfit is built on. There are thousands of different designs in the fashion world; printed, striped, plain, round neck, v-neck, polo neck, long sleeves or short sleeves. When preparing your outfit become more interested in the many different ways you can put together creative outfits that has both men and women complimenting you.
Blazers are another way to experiment with texture and introduce more colour. Blazers look great with trousers, jeans and chinos and can be worn for formal occasions, dates, dinners and nights out. A truly great look!
The formal look is something every man wears at some point in their life. The look is smart, elegant and timeless.
Sweaters go with many looks. You can wear the sweater with a shirt underneath, and perhaps dressing the look with a blazer or suit jacket. You can complete the look with either jeans, chinos and suit trousers!
15. Time piece
Accessories are a very important item worn by men; the most valued piece is a watch. I know we mainly use our smart phones to tell the time these days but there are two reasons why a watch is called a time piece; to tell time and because it’s simply timeless!
An outdoor jacket makes almost any outfit look smart, even a cheeky pop to the shops hiding your most casual lounge around top. The overcoat is sleek, sexy and a neccessary item for your wardrobe.
17. The Scarf
A scarf is a great way to give the outfit more texture and look more creative. The effortless style that so many admire. When I see a man wearing a scarf I always think he oozes style and confidence.
Sunglasses are the icing on the cake. The feel instantly more confident, attractive and ready to show everyone just how stylish you are!
So there you have it! It doesn’t matter what your style, these items will complete your wardrobe and you will find it much easier to piece outfits together on a daily basis and start to enjoy the art of dressing more than you thought possible!Back to Blog
